Birthdays all 'round [Jan. 13th, 2005|09:40 am]
[mood | rushed]

Seems like an awful lot of my family has January birthdays, and we're all going to be together Saturday to celebrate them! Yay!

I've been working on the house the past week with Vaughn, but it doesn't seem like we've made much progress. It's slow going. Tuesday he came over all day but we spent an awful lot of the time teaching me how to play Warcraft so I can kick some butt on Saturday when the family's all over here. Ha Ha!

I hope hobody breaks their necks walking to the house from the car. It's still icy here and the cars just keep packing the snow down. Jack fell yesterday and his shoulder and arm are really sore. At least it was AFTER he got home from bowling.

I am going to Habitat for Humanity to work today at about noon and then to Tacoma to direct the chorus, so I suppose I'll be busier than a hive full of bees tomorrow trying to pull the Family get-together together for Saturday. It will just be good to see everybody.

Yesterday I went with Laurajean to see "Phantom of the Opera." Then we went out for coffee and played checkers. That was nice.

There's this gal, Leah, in Sequim who's become a member of the Grand Olympics Chorus. She sings Bass and has a wonderful voice and is so excited about the music that she is anxious to get into a quartet, so I've been asking Jeanie if she wants to audition Leah as bass for our quartet now that Rose has decided that it's just too much work for her. I hope Leah find something before she becomes frustrated.

Brrrr! [Jan. 6th, 2005|08:36 pm]
[mood | tired]

Really cold today! The frost didn't even melt off the grass till tonight when it started to rain a little. I suppose that rain will freeze by morning. Careful out there!

Vaughn came over today and helped out quite a bit. It's nice to see him and work with him. Love my boys, I do!

Went to Habitat for Humanity and paid their bills. Barbara had made a scart for me and the other gals in the office. Really nice and warm :) How thoughtful.

I need a backrub. I stayed up late last night, or early this morning I should say. Watched TV and then was so tired that I couldn't sleep till about 4:00 this morning. Ugh! Gotta try sleeping tonight.

Pretty Cool [Jan. 5th, 2005|10:05 am]
[mood | cheerful]

Hey, I just figured out that this is a pretty cool idea. I think I'll start using my livejournal more often.

My trip to Mexico was a trip. It always is whenever I go anywhere with Jack. The weather was kinda crappy, but that just meant that we had justification to sit around and be lazy. We had HBO and Showtime, so watched plenty of movies. We went out to a great restaurant one night. The food was fabulous. They cooked over mesquite and it made the meat so flavorful we were orgasmic. They had mariachi (sp??) bands that wandered through and played. I didn't realize the accordian was so popular as a mexican instrument. It was titillating hearing accordian being played and seeing people enjoy it. So many jokes about accordian players have dampened my enthusiasm for playing my instrument.

Another night we went to a mexican buffet where we were able to taste a variety of mexican dishes. Excellent! The flan was particularly good...the burnt carmel was just right. Yum!

I was amazed that the land was so green and beautiful and the beaches were awesome. As beautiful as anything in Oregon that I've experienced. That really surprised me. I expected to find barren desert and snakes. Totally cool! I would go again. But I would pray for better weather. After the tsunami, the coast turned gray and wet. San Diego was flooded its worst in 10 years (just north of where we stayed) and the streets in Rosarita were bad at their best and now were muddy and great potholes were washed out, so we had to be careful not to lose a wheel in one of them.

The two sunny days we had, I spent shopping in the little open-air shops lining the sides of the road outside of town. I had a great time bargain-hunting and found some very pretty things to give as gifts.

The sun is shining today but it is very cold. There's frost on everything, but the sun is shining vry brightly in a blue sky. Gorgeous! I must take the dogs out for a walk.

A Wonderful Weekend [Jul. 20th, 2004|11:12 am]
I just returned (Sunday night, but who's counting) from South Carolina where I attended a Sweet Adelines workshop.
The weather was great. When I got there it was muggy and very hot. Then it turned beautiful for a couple of days, then on the last night I was there, I got a spectacular thunder and lightening show accompanied by torrential downpours. It was fabulous.
The wildlife there is so different. There was a lake on the campus (Furman University) where swans, ducks, and turtles waited to be fed. Squirrels aplenty. And cicaidas (which made sounds akin to Tahitian banboo sticks) and lightening bugs at night. Really wonderful.
The best part was that I was sent as a Director by the two choruses that I direct. They paid all expenses. Woo Hoo! I like being a Director.
Well, as you can imagine, I have plenty to do to catch up, so back to it.

Tulsa [Jan. 13th, 2004|10:34 pm]
I went to Tulsa last weekend. I got on a plane which was paid for by the chorus I direct, and it took me to Dallas and then to Tulsa and I spent the weekend in a very nice hotel which was paid for by Sweet Adelines Int'l. I was taken to Sweet Adelines Headquarters for a tour with 29 other novice directors from all over the world, fed very well, and educated by some of the best music educators in the organization - all for free. I had a roommate from Alaska, Karen, with whom I went shopping and caught a taxi to the airport after the weekend's events were completed. It was a totally cool experience except for the fact that I had a cold all weekend. Thanks to some powerful drugs, the cold didn't interfere much. I had a great time!

Blessings [Dec. 18th, 2003|11:25 am]
So much to be thankful for this year.

I'm thankful that our family is all safe and sound. Aaron, my eldest son, recently completed his committment with the Air Force. Fortunately, he was done before things really heated up in Iraq and I don't live in fear for his safety. I'm thankful that he is thriving and well. I'm am about to be blessed with my first granddaughter in February (the 6th, just after lunch, I am told :). My husband and I and our business will continue to remain in our current location due to CJ's continued grace, so our fears of impending relocation and ensuing loss of business and security is abated for the time being. (Big sigh of relief). CJ is bringing another daughter into our family (yay! girls at last!) by way of his sweetheart, Hannah. Vaughn and Chris are living here with us which gives me comfort. Tears of gratitude well as I consider my fortune in having my family close to me.

In September or August * was approached by a three-some that needed a tenor for their quartet and I joined them for the Christmas Season. We spent hours and hours rehearsing Christmas music and this month I have been performing with them and have been having so much fun! Last weekend and this weekend we're performing on the Levenworth Train. Last weekend we had a ball eating and singing and eating together and I'm looking forward to this weekend. Then it's over! I've been learning so much and have made some new friends. Now we're looking forward to contest, so we're putting together a comedy package. Great Fun!

I can tell I'm getting older (another birthday in January) because my body takes much longer to bounce back after all this activity. I need to exercise more, but where does the incentive come from I wonder? When I was young, I was so active and movement was such a pleasure, but now everything hurts and it's not so much fun anymore.

When I Directed the Commencement Bay Chorus at the Tacoma Elks a week or so ago, I put $5 into their raffle and lo and behold, I won a boy's bike, so I'm looking forward to putting that under the Christmas tree for my nephew Christmas morning. Hopefully, the whole family will be at mom's for Christmas morning and we'll have breakfast together.

(no subject) [Oct. 5th, 2003|01:21 pm]
[mood | worried]

I'm supposed to be at Mom's, but once again I've procrastinated so I'm scanning pictures that I'm supposed to return to her before I go and work for her. She's probably wondering when I'm going to show up. *sigh* I'm a bad daughter.

My New Quartet [Sep. 28th, 2003|10:29 am]
I just spent 2 days with my new quartet, and it was lovely! We really had a great session. our Christmas music is learned and we're now working on a show package for after Christmas. We tried on our new outfits that we'll be wearing for Christmas and ate wonderful Chicken Enchiladas and other goodies. I made an apple pie and got good reviews. I get to sing a solo in our new show package, so that's pretty exciting! Too Fun!

Jack can't sleep nights much with so much stress on the business and property affairs right now. He changed Chris' brakes yesterday and punched a hole in his arm. Add that to the shin bang he got the other day, and well, you can imagine that he's not sleeping too well.

I haven't seen Vaughn in a week. His cat is sure growing fast!

Chris just took off for work. He is a happy boy lately. Making lots of money, going to school, no women to worry about - life is grand!

Well, signing off for now...

Barbershopping at UPS [Jul. 20th, 2003|01:21 pm]
[mood | curious]

Just got home from a Barbershop Weekend and UPS in Tacoma. I got lots of good info to inflict on the chorus I direct in Tacoma, Commencement Bay Chorus. What a lovely campus! I slept by the foundtain and missed part of my class. I wish I could have spent the whole wekeend sleeping by the fountain. That was my favorite part - besides the part where I was serenaded by a quartet at 1:00 in the morning. They were wonderful and I was thrilled :) The Show Saturday Night was great. The quartets were outstanding. Just outstanding! Well, I think I'll chill out a bit and then go play with my horsie. She loves me :)
